Property Location

Genibret is our home and is located in the beautiful Quercy hills and central to everything this wonderful region has to offer. There is easy access to the many tourist sites of The Lot, Dordogne, Tarn et Garonne and Aveyron valley. A feature of the Quercy region is that it enjoys a sunnier drier climate than the Dordogne and the northern Lot regions. The area has a beautiful and varied landscape ranging from forested hills and valleys to dramatic river cliffs and rolling farmland. It is known for its châteaux, fortified churches, its pre-historic caves and dozens of white limestone mediaeval villages and towns such as Castelnau-Montratier, Lauzerte and Montcuq. Overlooking its own beautiful oak woodland (approx. 5 acres) and situated at an altitude of nearly 300m, the panoramic views over Quercy are spectacular.

The accommodation is perfect for a couple. It is an open plan studio style apartment with a 4'-6" double bed, sofa and dining table and chairs. There is a TV (BBC,ITV, Radio)and a DVD with extensive DVD library. The DVD list can be viewed on our Website. The entrance door leads straight out onto the sun terrace overlooking the swimming pool. The terrace has garden furniture, barbecue, parasols and sun loungers. It has a new fitted kitchen with 4-ring gas hob, electric oven/grill, refrigerator and all the usual kitchen appliances. There is a fully tiled en-suite shower room with tiled shower enclosure and thermostatic shower control. There is also a wash basin and separate en-suite WC. The Gîte has wooden shutters on all exterior doors and windows and rooms maintain a cool temperature even on the hottest day. Private access is from the sun terrace. Facing Southeast it is perfect for experiencing exquisite sun rises. Bed linen & bathroom and tea towels provided and changed weekly. There is access to a laundry room that has a washing machine and drying facilities. A steam iron and board are in the Gîte. All rooms have views over our private gardens, approx. 5 acres in all, which is a peaceful location but not isolated. The gardens and woodland is shared with the owners and is mainly lawns and mature oak trees. Adjacent to the sun terrace is the swimming pool which has a nice new deck surround (your feet will appreciate this in the hot weather) and our own floodlit tennis court. The two Gîtes form the entire habitable ground floor area (110m2) of our house - Genibret - and are completely independent from the main building. Genibret and its land are not overlooked by any other property.

Places of Interest

The Lot Valley is still largely unspoiled and contains a wealth of history dating from pre-history through the hundred year’s war to the present time. Visit the caves of Peche-Merle and wonder at the stunning cave paintings, or visit the many castles and fortified towns and villages of the area. Try the many activities to be found – golf, canoeing, kayaking, caving, climbing, microlight, all terrain biking, horse riding and trekking or walking. Perhaps try your luck fishing the Lot or the Aveyron rivers. Good restaurants abound locally and the locals are some of the friendliest you are likely to find anywhere. St Cirq-Lapopie perched 100m above the river on top of the cliff is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in France and is a must to visit. - - - - Nearby, (7 mins by car) is the market town of Castelnau Montratier, where there is a Tourist Office, various shops, supermarket, post office, garage, chemist, doctors and dentist surgery. The Sunday market is always a favourite venue for tourists where you can absorb the ambience from one of the café/bistros in the main square. During the summer numerous fetes and festivals take place, with live music and entertainment.
